Car found partially submerged in Blandford's River Stour

It follows reports of alleged dangerous driving through the town

A car's ended up in the River Stour after failing to stop for Blandford police.

Officers gave chase at around 2.20am yesterday morning (Sunday 5th March) after a black Kia Sportage was seen being driven erratically in Wimborne Road.

They made off in the direction of Stour Meadows, and the vehicle was later found in the water.

Fire fighters and the ambulance service were called to the crash - the driver was uninjured.

A 20-year-old man from Somerset was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and taking a vehicle without consent.

Arrangements are being made to recover the car today (Monday 6th March).

Sergeant Al Marks, of Dorset Police’s Volume Crime Team, said:

“We are continuing to conduct enquiries into this matter, and I am keen to hear from anyone with information that might assist our investigation.

“I am particularly keen to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.”
