Arrest made after 20-year-old assaulted in Bridport

Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses

Police are investigating after a man in his 20's was assaulted in Bridport on Saturday night.

The victim, a local man, was walking along an alleyway at the rear of the bowling green near to Priory Lane at around 8pm when he was approached by a group of six men.

The victim spoke to the men and it is reported that he was then assaulted. His front tooth was knocked out and he sustained injuries to his hand.

A 24-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Detective Constable Emma Swann, of Weymouth CID, said:

"An investigation is underway into this incident to identify the other people involved. I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a group of men in the area at the relevant time to please contact Dorset Police."
