Pupils have been evacuated from a private school in Bournemouth after what police describe as reports of a security threat.

Emergency services were called to Talbot House Preparatory School near Winton just after 9.30am this morning (Thursday 30th November).

A builder working nearby told us they saw the children being moved away, and searches being carried out:

"We'd seen the children getting evacuated - they didn't seem panicked, but they hastily left the school and parents were picking them up quite quickly.

"There was a police dog running up and down the road, going in people's gardens - a spaniel type dog."

Searches found nothing of concern.

Children were sent home for the day following the security threat

In a statement, Dorset Police said:

"We received a report at 9.36am on Thursday 30 November 2023 from a school regarding a security threat made to the school in the Winton area of Bournemouth.

"School staff made the decision to evacuate pupils and officers attended to carry out a search of the premises as a precaution.

"A thorough search has been completed, nothing of concern has been located and emergency services will be resuming from the scene.

We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during this incident."

An investigation into what happened is ongoing, with cordons put in place around the school now lifted.
