Man charged after racially aggravated assaults in Bournemouth

A man has been charged by Dorset Police following several reports of racially aggravated assaults in Bournemouth.
Officers from the force were alerted to an incident taking place in the Littledown area of the town at around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon (June 3rd).
Several reports were made to the police as a man began causing criminal damage while in a Tesco Extra supermarket on Riverside Avenue, as well as the Littledown Leisure Centre.
Later on, it was reported that the man had been using racially abusive language towards several people, as well as causing criminal damage to the Holland & Barratt section of the supermarket.
When responders arrived at the scene, they found and arrested a man from the Bransgore area of nearby Christchurch.
Police now say a man has been charged with racially aggravated assault offences, criminal damage offences, strangulation, affray, threats to kill and possessing an offensive weapon.
Dorset Police said the man has been remanded into police custody, and will appear before Poole Magistrates' Court on Thursday (June 5th).
Speaking on the case, Detective Superintendent Steve May from Dorset Police, said: “Following swift and decisive action by our officers, a man was detained in connection with this incident and following detailed enquiries he has now been charged and is due to appear in court.
“We are grateful to members of the public who have already provided us with information for our investigation. However, I am still appealing for any witnesses to come forward who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.
“I am also keen to hear from motorists or residents in the Littledown area who may have captured any relevant dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell camera footage.
“Finally, I appreciate this incident may have caused concern to members of the community and I would like to reassure them that a full investigation is still being carried to determine the full circumstances of what occurred."
