Emergency services in Bournemouth have responded to a major fire at a number of beach huts on the city's East Beach.

Officers from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to an incident taking place along the beach close to Undercliff Drive at around 1:20am on Tuesday (May 27th).

A number of firefighters were called from Springbourne, Westbourne and Redhill Park fire stations to deal with the fire.

When responders arrived at the scene, they found that nine beach huts had caught fire, with the blaze now spreading to the nearby cliff.

According to the fire service, the huts had already been been "well alight" when they arrived to extinguish the fire, using two main jets and four hose reels.

Officers were able to bring the fire under control, with the final embers of the fire being put out just before 3am.

Following the extinguishing of the fire, the scene was then given to Bournemouth Council, who have launched investigations into the cause of the fire.

Enquiries into what triggered the fire are ongoing, according to the fire and rescue service.
