Dorchester Brewery Square fountains raise 'back to normal' hopes

It's incredibly tempting, but we're being asked to admire from a distance for now.

The fountains at Brewery Square in Dorchester are often scenes of elation for children each summer.

Last year, they were switched off during the first lockdown to discourage playing in the water.

But now, Brewery Square staff say they're a symbol to businesses, residents and passersby that things might soon be back to normal.

Centre Manager, Charlotte Spracklen said:

"We've had so much positivity, and so many great comments from members of the publoic, from residents, from businesses to say this almost feels like business as usual.

"We're one step closer to what we hope will be normal again."

It's not totally back to normal though, we're still being asked to keep our children (and ourselves) away from the fountains, and enjoy them from a distance.

Brewery Square say it's still important to maintain social distancing until restrictions are possibly eased next month.

Charlotte added:

"At the minute they're really a visual feature. We have seen people running through them as they make their way to the train station or into the town centre.

"That's great, we're quite happy for that, but what we're trying to avoid at the moment is people crowding the area because we want everybody to remain safe, especially at this time, when we could be so close to reopening again."
