A team of embedded police officers working at Weymouth's Harbour Service has been recognised with an award from Dorset Police.

The Dorset Council run service works with young people who might be at risk of entering the care system, if they didn't have additional support.

The team - Mark Wodarek-Black, Barnaby Grew and Fran Hill - have been rewarded for their efforts in reducing crime, as a result of their partnership work.

They'll pick up their award from Dorset Police next month.

Cllr Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help, said:

“A huge congratulations to Mark, Barnaby and Fran on winning this award. We are very proud of the work that you do for the Harbour Service in supporting our young people.

“We want all our young people to reach their full potential and become successful contributors to our community and wider society. Thank you for all your efforts.”

WHAT IS THE HARBOUR SERVICE?

It's based in Weymouth, centred around a residential hub, to bring together accommodation options, support services and outreach help.

Many of the young people that the team has worked with have experienced tough and sometimes traumatic circumstances, meaning they often need help to feel safe, nurtured and secure.

The Harbour Service team is relationship and strengths-based, with specialist training to deal with trauma, to help support complex and troubled young people to improve their prospects and reach their full potential.
