Two men have been arrested in connection with an alleged attempted robbery in Weymouth.

The incident happened back in May, at the junction of St. Mary Street and St. Thomas Street, opposite the King’s Statue.

The victim had been to Gladstones jewellers and after leaving the store and walking around the corner, it is reported a man grabbed a box the victim was holding, forcing it from his hand, and made off down Westham Road, turning right into Gloucester Street.

Fortunately, the victim – a man in his 50s – had not returned the item, a Rolex watch, to the box and so it wasn't stolen.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

" Following enquires by detectives from Weymouth CID, two men – aged 21 and 31 and both from Wiltshire – were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They have been released under investigation as detectives carry out further enquiries."
