A major Dorset route will be closed across this weekend (Friday 14th to Monday 17th March) to allow for essential maintenance works.

The A35 Christchurch Bypass is to shut between the Purewell Cross/Stony Lane roundabout and the Somerford roundabout.

The closure will be in effect from 7.30pm tonight (Friday 14th March) right through until 6.00am on Monday (17th March).

Diversion routes during the weekend closure will be signed as follows:

• For A35 Christchurch Bypass, via B3059 Purewell Cross Road and B3059 Somerford Road.

• For Salisbury Road, via B3347 Stony Lane and Martins Hill Lane.

What's being done?

It's so BCP Council can carry out works to the Mude Calvert - a covered channel which runs beneath the road.

A crack in the channel will be repaired while the existing surfacing there will be removed so a new waterproof membrane can be applied, and the surfacing then replaced.

Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy, said: “These essential works on Mude Culvert will help maintain the long-term safety and resilience of the Christchurch Bypass.

“While this may cause some temporary inconvenience, we ask motorists to plan their journey in advance, and we appreciate their patience as this necessary maintenance is completed.”
