Autumn clean-up on A338 Bournemouth spur road this week
Some closures will be in place though, from tonight (Monday 4th November)
An Autumn clean-up of the A338 spur road into Bournemouth begins tonight (Monday 4th November) - with some closures in place.
BCP and Dorset Councils carry out work to cut back vegetation, cut grass, inspect bridges and clear rubbish twice a year.
The work will take place over 4 nights, with lane closures in place from 9.00pm to 6.00am, as follows:
- Overnight on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th November - southbound carriageway from Ashley Heath to Cooper Dean
- Overnight on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th November - northbound carriageway from Cooper Dean to Ashley Heath
The carriageways will be fully open to vehicles during the day.
Cllr Jon Andrews, Cabinet Member for Place Services at Dorset Council, said:
“This regular event enables our crews to safely clear vegetation, and also clear up the large amount of rubbish that collects along the A338.
“Last year, our team cleared 14 tonnes (the equivalent weight of two small lorries) during their twice-yearly clean-ups.
“It continues to be hugely disappointing that so much rubbish is dumped on our highway verges. This is bad news for the environment and an unnecessary burden on council taxpayers.
“Thank you for your patience whilst we close the carriageways overnight to safely undertake this work.”
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey during these nightworks, for example if they are travelling to Bournemouth airport for a late night or early morning flight.
The recommended diversion route will be signposted - that has to use A roads, but some shorter routes might be possible with drivers' local knowledge.
