A section of the A31 through Dorset will be closed overnight for the next two weeks.

The closures by National Highways will be in place between the Sturminster Marshall and Bere Regis from this evening (Tuesday 21st April).

The road will be shut in both directions from 9.00pm to 6.00am on weeknights until the morning of Friday 21st April.

It's all so that work can be carried out to replace the lighting columns along the road, to 'improve visibility and safety for motorists'.

An official diversion route's been put in place by National Highways while the closures in place:

That'll take drivers along the A35 and A350, but local knowledge might mean some shortcuts are available.

Drivers are asked to allow extra times during their journeys while the closures are in effect.
