6 paddle boarders have been rescued by Weymouth Lifeboat crews.

They got into difficulty at Chesil Cove yesterday after being swept out to sea by offshore winds last night.

Both lifeboats from Weymouth were dispatched, and took them safely back to the beach.

A spokesperson for Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"On scene the team were able to get eyes on the paddleboarders, who had been pushed out approximately half a mile from the beach by the offshore wind.

"Weymouth Lifeboat ILB was quickly on scene and the paddleboarders position passed to them by the team. All four paddleboarders were safely recovered by the ILB and returned to shore for a welfare check. The ILB crew then assisted two more paddleboarders back to shore and gave safety advice to others in the area."
