A new telecoms mast in Easton Lane, Portland will bring 5G signals to the area.

Dorset Council has decided that the 20m ‘slim line’ pole with three equipment cabinets can go ahead.

The application came from Hutchinson 3G, now known as Three, and claims that the mast will not only bring 5G signals to the area but will also improve other phone signals as well.

It will be placed on a verge between the pavement and 40mph section of Easton Lane, between two existing trees.

Said a statement with the application to Dorset Council:

“H3G (Three) is committed to providing improved network coverage and capacity, most notably in relation to 5G services. In these unprecedented times of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is recognised that high-speed mobile connectivity is the lifeblood of a community; facilitating educational benefits, providing access to vital services, improving communications with the associated commercial benefits for local businesses, enabling e-commerce and working from home, as well as enjoying access to social, media and gaming for leisure time activities.”

The application did not attract any objections.
