40 firefighters have been tackling a house fire on Portland.

Crews from across the county were called to Grove Road around 7.40pm last night.

The fire was in the first floor of the property and in the roof.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"Crews from Portland, Weymouth including the Ariel Ladder Platform, Dorchester, Bere Regis and Wareham were mobilised to the scene.

"A total of 14 breathing apparatus wearers used two main lines, four hose reel jets, ladders and the Ariel Ladder Platform to extinguish the fire. "

"No one was injured in the blaze.

"The incident was scaled back and firefighters remained on scene until just after midnight.

"A further reinspection is taking place this morning."

It's still not known how the fire started.

It's the second major fire in Dorset in as many days.

Crews were called to tackle house fire in Cerne Abbas yesterday morning.
