Drivers wanting to travel from one end of Longburton to the other will face a 36-mile diversion

A 36 mile diversion is in place in Dorset to make way for roadworks which start tomorrow.

A significant stretch of the A352 near Longburton Village will be closed in sections, with no through access for drivers.

The long route is down to guidelines that specify diversions must point drivers along the same classification of road they would travel without the diversion - in this case an A road.

That means drivers looking to stick to A roads will have to drive through Charminster, Yeovil, and Sherborne before reaching the other side of the closure.

Local drivers will be able to use other roads to navigate around the closed area, but they should ensure these roads are suitable for the vehicle they're driving.

It's anticipated road works will take 11 days to complete. Road closures will be in place in sections, starting at the northern end and working south for the first week.

The final four days of work will be south of Longburton village from the speed limit change down to Middlemarsh.

During the road closure from 16 November to 20 November, when there will be less traffic on the A352, the highways structures team will have two-way lights at Dunns Bridge to clear silt from under the bridge. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses throughout the works.
