2 people rescued from yacht crashing against rocks on Portland

Weymouth Lifeboat was launched in the early hours of this morning

Two people have been rescued after their yacht was being washed against rocks on Portland.

Weymouth Lifeboat was launched in the early hours of this morning.

The 22ft yacht was found in the Church Ope Cove area and escorted safely into Weymouth Harbour.

A spokesperson for Wyke Coastguard CRT said:

"The 2 persons on board were on passage from Lyme Regis to Brighton, they had telephoned a friend ashore who had reason to be concerned for their welfare and called the Coastguard."

A spokesperson for Weymouth Lifeboat said:

"The Vessel was quickly located by Weymouth RNLI Lifeboat and was making progress towards Weymouth Harbour. The yacht was escorted by the lifeboat to a safe berth in the Harbour where it was met by Wyke Coastguard Rescue team."
