Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms issued for Dorset

It comes into force at 8pm tonight

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for thunderstorms across Dorset.

It comes into force at 8pm tonight until 6 tomorrow morning.

The Met Office are warning that heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to bring some disruption.

A Met Office spokesperson said:

"Downpours are likely to be most frequent along the coast. Some locations may receive 30-40 mm of rain in a few hours, whilst thunderstorms will be mostly limited to coastal districts where lightning and hail may be additional hazards."

What to expect

• There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus

• Some flooding of a few homes and businesses likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures

• Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes

• Delays to train services are possible

• Some short term loss of power and other services is likely
