Weymouth Town Council gets donation towards new beach wheelchair
The Rotary Club's given money to the authority for the kit
A new beach wheelchair's being made available for Weymouth beach, thanks to a local donation.
The town's Rotary Club's given ÂŁ1,000 to Weymouth Town Council for the equipment.
It means those with restricted mobility will still be able to get to the water's edge this summer, using the access mats on the sand.
Weymouth Town Council already has two beach wheelchairs for people to use for free, and this donation will go towards a new one too.
Rotary Club member David Langridge said:
“I am delighted that the Weymouth Rotary in its 100th year have been able to donate £1,000 which will help towards a new beach wheelchair. This will provide those with restricted mobility access the opportunity to go down to the beach front. It is great to be able to support such a worthwhile initiative such as this as we have done for the past 100 years in Weymouth.”
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Ann Weaving, said:
“My sincere thanks go to Weymouth Rotary Club for their generous donation, it really means a lot. Weymouth Town Council recently received another donation of £1,000 from Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, which means we are a step closer to securing a third beach wheelchair for people to use when they visit enjoy Weymouth beach.”
More fundraising is needed to fully cover the cost of a new beach wheelchair - any groups or donors that would like to help can email resort@weymouthtowncouncil.gov.uk
