Works to repair a collapsed sewer in Weymouth means King Street is closed to traffic from today (Monday 4th November).

Wessex Water say they're due to be on site for five days.

The route will be shut between the Queen Street and Crescent Street/Gloucester Mews junctions.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said:

“A collapsed sewer within the road means our team need to carry out the emergency repair and we’ll be working extended hours to try and ensure we complete the work as quickly as possible. The road is expected to be reopened by the end of the day on Friday 8th November.

“A signposted diversion, agreed with Dorset Council, will be in place and, as a number of bus routes will also be impacted, we’re also working closely with First Bus to ensure their services are maintained and amended where necessary.

“We have written to local residents and businesses and thank them for their patience while we carry out this work as quickly as possible. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Changes for bus services

The repairs mean all journeys for bus routes 1, 3 and X53 will start and finish at Weymouth Rail Station forecourt during the work.

On Route 10, there'll also be certain journeys that are diverted between Radipole and Weymouth - that'll affect journeys before 9.30am and after 8.00pm.

Passengers that need stops within the diversion can use a service 2 bus, or a service 10 shuttle bus which will continue along the normal routing.

People travelling to Weymouth Town Centre and onwards along route 1 can remain on the bus which will divert via Weymouth Way to Weymouth Rail Station.

For Route 10A, during afternoons and evenings only, journeys will not serve stops along Preston Road.

After serving Chalbury Corner, the bus will divert via Littlemoor Road, Dorchester Road and Weymouth Way to Weymouth Rail Station.
