It's believed a fire at a derelict property in Weymouth was started deliberately.

20 firefighters were called to put out the fire in Dorchester Road, opposite the Rembrandt Hotel, at around 6.20am yesterday morning (Sunday 1st September).

It's thought the fire started at around 5.00am that morning.

Two people who live nearby - a man in his 40's and a girl, were taken to hospital after breathing in smoke.

PC Sam Welch, of Weymouth police, said:

“This has caused a great deal of distress for the innocent victims of this fire.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Melcombe Regis area of the town at the time of the incident to please get in touch.

“I would also ask local residents and motorists driving at the time to please review their home CCTV cameras and dashcams to see if they have captured anything of relevance to our investigation.”
