'Warm banks' open in Weymouth as people choose between heating or eating
The places are free of charge and open to everyone
'Warm banks' are opening in Weymouth to keep people warm this Winter.
As people battle the cost-of-living crisis, local councils and charities are opening the hubs as a safe place for people to go and stay warm.
We're told these will all be free of charge, with some also offering food and drink as well as activities for families.
Buildings like libraries, leisure centres and churches are involved - along with other community buildings across Dorset.
In Weymouth, church community spaces have opened in the town centre, Littlemoor, Radipole, Westham and Wyke Regis.
This is thanks to Re-fresh Weymouth and Portland, a charity and church-based organisation who has set these up.
Cherry Clarke from the charity told us why she wanted to create these spaces.
She says: "People are not going to be able to pay their bills so they're not going to be able to- no, they're going to have to choose not to put their heating on and sit in a cold house.
"This is unhealthy on many levels both mentally and physically so we want to offer a space of hospitality and community which is there if families would like to join us.
"People can just walk through the doors, there's no sign up, every space is free so there's no need to pay anything.
"These places are going to be warm; they can offer time to meet people, have refreshments, there might be a light lunch or an activity.
"But people can just come and read their newspaper if they like, you know they're warm spaces, they're going to be welcoming."
