Walkway at West Bay Harbour CLOSED for safety reasons
Dorset Council's stepped in, also shutting some public toilets there
A walkway, leading to some public toilets at West Bay Harbour, has been closed for safety reasons.
The stretch, on the western wall of the harbourside, has been closely monitored by Dorset Council officers for a while now.
They've noticed some structural movement since the last inspection a few weeks ago, and are concerned about its stability.
As a result, the section in front of the concession stands between the Harbour Master's Office and the Ellipse building has been barriered off.
While the public toilets there are closed, there are other facilities at East Beach and at the Visitors Centre.
Access to the parking spaces, local businesses and refreshment stands are not affected.
What happens now?
A plan is being put together by Dorset Council officers to repair the harbour wall and make the area safe for pedestrians.
There's reassurance that the walkway won't be closed for longer than absolutely necessary.
A date for works to begin on site will be announced as soon as it's been arranged.
Dorset Council has apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked people for their understanding.
