Two free parking days have been announced for Weymouth in the run up to Christmas.

Dorset Council's making its car parks free for the Christmas Lights Switch-On (Saturday 25th November) and Small Business Saturday (2nd December), after a successful application from the Town Council.

It'll be free to park on those days at Weymouth Pavilion, Pavilion Forecourt, Governors Lane, Cosens Quay, Harbourside, Melcombe Regis, Park Street and Swannery.

Cllr Ryan Hope, Chair of Services Committee, said:

“Our thanks go to Dorset Council for supporting this initiative again this year. It’s great to have free parking for these two big events which will bring people into the town as well as encourage those to shop local and boost the economy.”

Weymouth Town Council say they do expect car parks to be busier than usual on those days, so local drivers are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible.

The free parking days are also in contrast to BCP Council, who are offering no free parking this year, as they say they can't afford the lost revenue.
