New trees to be planted at Weymouth's Tumbledown Farm
They're in honour of local volunteers
Weymouth's Tumbledown Farm is get a fair few more trees today (Friday 2nd December).
A number of oak saplings are being planted to commemorate the efforts of the Friends of Tumbledown community group that's working to protect the area.
They formed earlier this year - volunteering and fundraising for the site, which has been taken over by Weymouth Town Council as a community asset.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Ann Weaving will be among those helping:
“I’m looking forward to planting a tree at Tumbledown and being involved in the celebration of the people who have taken the time to volunteer at the former farm which Weymouth Town Council is transforming into a community asset.”
It's hoped the oak trees will eventually form a copse at the bottom end of the site.
More trees will also be planted today by Dorset Council - as a thank you to Weymouth's volunteers.
Around 30 fruit are being put in, to create an 'avenue' along the access path onto the site.
This comes during National Tree Week, which runs until Sunday 4th December, and as part of the Queen's Green Canopy scheme, honouring the life and legacy of Her late Majesty the Queen.
