Tens of thousands gathering in Dorset for 'world's biggest tank display'
TANKFEST returns to Bovington Tank Museum for a three-day spectacular
More than 24,000 people are expected to visit the world's biggest display of running military vehicles in Dorset this weekend.
Tank enthusiasts will get the best of both worlds at this year’s TANKFEST: an “unparalleled” line-up of historic tanks and a display of vehicles used on operations today, courtesy of the British Army.
The Tank Museum’s Visitor Experience Manager, Rosanna Dean said: “As well as the world-class tank displays, visitors can explore living history encampments, a World of Tanks gaming zone, lectures from experts, a variety of traders and caterers, and a flypast.”
A rare German Nashorn (only one of three in the World) and a Centaur will both be making their UK debuts.
Flying above will be the iconic warbirds: the Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane and the Red Arrows.
Head of Marketing, Nik Wyness said: “We’re giving tank nuts and aviation fans alike the rare opportunity to glimpse these Second World War planes soaring over their armoured vehicle counterparts, helping us to honour those who fought during the Second World War.”
Tank Museum Curator David Willey. “We are fortunate to be able to bring in some ‘guest stars’ to treat the audience and keep the show fresh,” from Former BBC War Correspondent, Kate Adie to Gulf War Brigade Commander, Major General Patrick Cordingley.
Visitors will have the opportunity to browse the Museum’s ten powerful, interactive exhibitions, including the brand new ‘Tanks for the Memories’, which presents the tank as a cultural icon through the mediums of TV, media, models, games and film.
