SSAFA Dorset - who help veterans and their families - need more volunteers as demand increases
The Dorset-based charity are looking for case workers and both fundraising and shop volunteers
SSAFA Dorset - a support service that helps veterans and their families - has reached out for volunteers.
Their branch's chair Terry Cannon told us the organisation felt the need to launch this appeal as the demand for their service has increased and their volunteer staff has decreased after lockdown.
He also said why getting volunteers now is more important than ever: "The needs that come to us are constant, we had a decrease during the pandemic but they're coming back now and the cost of living certainly is not helping people across Dorset."
The charity offers a range of support services such as: support for veterans in the criminal justice system, an adoption advice service as well as mental wellbeing support.
Volunteer positions available for those looking to lend a helping hand include case workers and both fundraising and shop volunteers.
Terry Cannon is the Chair of SSAFA Dorset. He told us how people can get in touch: "If people do want to volunteer, there is a contact number you can call - the same number is the one you can call if you are a veteran that requires our help.
"This number is 0204 566 9131 and that takes you to our regional office.
"You could also visit our website or - if you need to access the service - you can go through the veteran's gateway."
"SSAFA Dorset is unique as we have the only SSAFA charity shop in the country- which basically dates back to the Second World War - one of the oldest in the country!
"So, even on a smaller basis with people who have little time, if they can spend a morning a week helping with our shop that would be fantastic."
