Teacher assaulted in front of pupils on school trip in Bridport

A teacher has been assaulted while looking after a group of school children on a trip in Bridport.

Dorset Police say they received a report of an assault outside Bridport Library in South Street at around 10.30am on Friday (3 March).

The victim, a male school teacher who was accompanying a group of pupils on a trip at the time of the incident, was reportedly punched.

He sustained injuries to his head and neck and received medical treatment.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

"Following enquiries, a 45-year-old man from Bridport was arrested on suspicion of assault.

"He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

"An investigation is underway and officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are aware of the incident and can be approached by anyone with any information or concerns."
