A new set of rural crime advice is being offered to landowners, farmers and those living in rural areas of Dorset.

The Dorset Partnership Against Rural Crime (DPARC), chaired by the county's Police and Crime Commissioner, has put together an information leaflet which gives hints and tips on crime prevention.

It includes proactive advice on how to help keep farms, land and machinery safe, with key police-approved information and advice on how to prevent residents from becoming a victim of crime.

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said:

“Dorset is a proudly rural county, and from the outset all the members of DPARC wanted to do something to help agricultural and other isolated rural communities feel safer and help prevent crime.

As a partnership, we want to help build community resilience in rural areas. All the partners involved in DPARC are very much aware of the devastating impact crime can have not only on farmers and their livelihoods, but on rural communities too, and that is why we have put this leaflet together.”

The Dorset Partnership Against Rural Crime was set up in 2022 and brings together partner agencies such as local councils, Dorset Police, the National Farmers Union, the Country Land and Business Association, NFU Mutual and Cornish Mutual amongst others, to work together, and share knowledge and best practice to better support Dorset’s rural communities.

Other work of the partnership includes tackling fly-tipping, through better data sharing, new evidence gathering and resources to raise awareness of the issues.
