A referendum's planned for the Chesil Bank area of Dorset - on whether a Neighbourhood Plan is adopted.

Dorset Council's drawn up a document alongside local people and the Parish Council, setting out where new houses could be built, as well as where employment land could go and which green spaces should be protected.

The Plan includes the villages of Portesham, Abbotsbury, Langton Herring and Fleet.

The public vote on the document will be held on Thursday 28th September - with a simple 'Yes' or 'No' vote.

Cllr David Walsh, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, said:

“It takes a tremendous amount of work to pull together a Neighbourhood Plan. I congratulate all involved in getting to this stage.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in the future development of Chesil Bank, to view the plans and have their say.”

We can see the plans for ourselves online via the Dorset Council website, or there's hard copies at the Council Officers at Colliton Park in Dorchester, Portesham Village Hall foyer, and at Dorchester and Chickerell Libraries.

To take part in the referendum, you have to be registered to vote by 12th September 2023.

The polling stations will be open from 7.00am to 10.00pm on the day (28th September).

You now need photo ID to vote at a polling station - but if you don't have accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate. |newtab)
