Portland Beach Road is under investigation over its safety record. after a spate of accidents.

Dorset Councillor Ray Bryan has confirmed the A354 is being looked at and a full report will be released.

The most recent fatal collision happened last month, when a man in his 30's died after being struck by a lorry.

Confirmation of the review follows calls for road safety improvements to routes leading on and off Portland.

Wyke Regis councillor and Weymouth town mayor Kate Wheller says three areas should be given immediate attention to make them better.

Her concerns are over the junction at the bottom of Boot Hill when turning into Asda; the mini roundabout adjacent to All Saints church in Wyke Regis and the Portland Beach Road where she says right-turns out of junctions ought to be banned.

The other two areas aren't likely to get any immediate changes.

Cllr Wheller said she was not entirely happy with the responses and said there was nothing more important that keeping people safe – even if the cost was slowing traffic down a bit.
