Poole woman saying key to reaching 100 years old is 'luck'
Betty's had a visit from the Mayor of Poole to mark her milestone
A woman living at a Poole care home says the key to reaching the milestone age of 100 is 'luck'.
Betty, who lives at Elizabeth House in Dolbery Road, celebrated her birthday last weekend (Sunday 21st April) with a visit from Mayor of Poole Cllr Jo Clements and her consort.
Betty enjoyed a party with the other residents with live music, receiving a host of cards and flowers to decorate her room.
Betty left school at 14 and worked in a bookshop before joining the WRAF (Women’s branch of the RAF).
She has lived in Poole throughout her life and spent 20 years happily married to her late husband, Dennis.
When asked what the secret is to reaching 100, Betty said:
“I’m very lucky to still be here and I am still healthy and can get about. I have been very lucky because I had a nice husband, Dennis, who was secretary to the Sherriff and Mayor of Poole. We had a wonderful life together. Now, I’m happy living at Elizabeth House as they look after me very well.”
Elouise Powell, Home Manager at Elizabeth House, said:
“It is a real privilege and honour to help Betty to celebrate her milestone 100th birthday. Seeing Betty so happy on her special day brought a tear to the eye of some of the team as she’s such a lovely lady and an absolute pleasure to care for. At Care South, we love to make every day special for our residents and like to make an extra effort on their birthdays by personalising the celebrations to them.”
Elizabeth House provides specialist residential, respite, and dementia care.
