Police investigate 'disturbing' female cat deaths in Poole
They believe all three incidents are linked
Police in Poole have revealed they are investigating a series of cat deaths.
The three incidents - where two cats died - happened between last August and January this year in the Canford Heath area.
- A cat went missing from Hythe Road in August 2022. She eventually returned in October. The cat was still alive, but she had injuries similar to the deceased cats found last month.
- A dead cat was found by a resident in Chaldon Road on the 4 January 2023. The cat lived in Chaldon Road.
- A dead cat was found by a passer-by driving along Yarrow Road on the 12 January 2023. The owner has never come forward.
Police say the injuries to all three cats were similar and have called them disturbing.
A spokesperson for Poole Police Station said:
"Our working assumption is that the three incidents are linked and that a human was likely involved based on information provided by a qualified vet. All three cats were female. It is unclear at this stage if that is part of the motive.
"A number of leads have been followed and Poole NPT will continue to exploit opportunities to identify a suspect. For obvious reasons we cannot divulge our tactics in a social media post, but we did want to provide an update to the local community around our investigation."
Police say patrols are continuing in the area and we are being urged to report any 'suspicious individuals'.
A spokesperson for Poole Police Station added:
"You may observe something that could be vital to this investigation. By reporting via the correct channels, provides police the opportunity to exploit CCTV and other tactical options to maximise our evidential opportunities promptly.
"These incidents are incredibly important to us, as we know they are to the community in Canford Heath. We are here for you."
