No train services through Dorset TODAY

The latest strike action's affecting South Western Railway services

Published 6th Dec 2023

Train passengers are warned there'll be an 'extremely limited' service on South Western Railway (SWR) today (Wednesday 6th December), with no services in Dorset.

Members of the ASLEF union, which represents train drivers, are taking industrial action in a row over pay and conditions.

The strike means services will only run from London as far as Basingstoke and any services will also only operate between 7.00am and 7.00pm.

There's also already bus replacement services in north Dorset, due to works by Network Rail on the West of England line between Salisbury and Yeovil.

SWR is urging customers to only travel 'if absolutely necessary' today.

Stuart Meek, Chief Operating Officer for South Western Railway, said:

“We’re sorry that national industrial action will again impact SWR services. ASLEF will take strike action on Wednesday 6th December, meaning we will run an extremely limited service, and we must urge our customers to only travel if absolutely necessary on that day.

“We know that this is a busy time of year as we approach Christmas, so we would like to thank customers for their continued patience and understanding.”
