A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash in north Dorset.

The rider came off his bike on the A354 between Cashmoor and the Handley Cross roundabout near Sixpenny Handley at around 6.00am on Sunday.

The man in his 60s from Dorchester was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for a police investigation.

Sergeant Dave Cotterill from Dorset Police said: "Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who sadly died in this collision and we are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

"I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us, and I am also keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the vicinity and may have captured relevant dashcam footage.

"Finally, I appreciate this collision has resulted in the closure of a main road for a significant period of time, and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures."
