UPDATED: Arrest made after man injured in Weymouth assault

A man's been taken to hospital with serious facial injuries after being assaulted in Weymouth.

It was reported that at around 12.50am on Sunday (29 September) an altercation took place near to the junction of Caroline Place and Westham Road.

A man aged in his 30s sustained serious facial injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Dorset Police tell us they've arrested a 27 year old man from Weymouth on suspicion of inflicting GBH with intent, affray and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

He remains in custody.

Police Constable Mia-Isabella Bowditch, of Weymouth CID, said:

“We are carrying out a full investigation into this incident and we are exploring a number of active lines of enquiry to identify the offender involved.

“I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoke to police to please make contact with us.

“I would also urge any motorists who were driving in the area to check if they have captured any relevant dashcam footage and similarly I would ask residents in the vicinity to check any home CCTV footage from around the time of the incident.

“There will be an increased policing presence in the vicinity as we investigate this matter and officers can be approached by members of the public with any information or concerns.”
