A man's been given a 12 year prison sentence for the rape and assault of a woman at her home in Bournemouth.

33 year old Perry Michael Legg from Poole has been sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court today (Friday 21st June).

He's also been made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

Legg has been found guilty at a trial of three counts of rape, and assault occasioning ABH.

He admitted an offence of possessing extreme pornographic material.

What happened?

In July 2021, Legg and the victim, a woman aged in her 20s who was known to the defendant, were at her home address and had been drinking when Legg began physically assaulting her before proceeding to rape her in a sustained sexual attack.

She fled to a neighbour’s address afterwards and contacted a friend, who came to collect her.

Police were called and Legg was arrested in the early hours of the following morning after he learned police were looking for him and agreed to meet officers in Winton.

His phone was then analysed and found to contain a number of images depicting extreme pornographic material.

Detective Sergeant Nick Whittaker, of Dorset Police, said:

“Perry Legg subjected his victim to a truly horrific physical and sexual attack, and I want to praise her for the courage she has shown in coming forward to report the offences.

“She has also shown immense bravery throughout the investigation and court process and helped to ensure Legg faces justice for his despicable crimes.

“I hope her actions will help inspire other victims of sexual offences to find the strength to report them to police, in the knowledge that they will be fully supported and we will do all we can to ensure offenders are held accountable.”
