A man has died in hospital, following a crash on the A30 at Babylon Hill near Sherborne.

The collision involved a blue Mini Cooper and a Volvo articulated lorry just after 4.00pn on Tuesday afternoon (20th February), near the junction with Marl Lane.

The Mini driver, in his 20s and from Yeovil was airlifted to hospital in Bristol, but passed away yesterday evening (Wednesday 21st February).

His family's been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Sergeant Geraint Butler, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said:

“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the young man who sadly died, and officers are doing all they can to support the family at this extremely difficult time.

“We owe it to them to conduct a detailed investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would again urge any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage of the incident to please come forward.

“From our enquiries so far, we believe there were at least two vehicles in the vicinity whose occupants are likely to have witnessed what happened that we have so far not been able to trace. We would urge these people to please make contact with us.

“We also understand an off-duty nurse stopped to give assistance at the scene and we would be keen to speak to this individual and take their account.

“Furthermore, I would urge anyone travelling in either direction on the A30 between Yeovil and Sherborne around this time of the collision to please review any dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance, including the movements of the vehicles involved prior to the collision.”
