Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing on Portland
A man was found with stab wounds in Chiswell yesterday afternoon
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing on Portland.
At 12.51pm yesterday (Monday 5 August), Dorset Police received a report that a local man aged in his 40s had sustained suspected stab wounds following an assault in Chiswell.
Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. He was treated for injuries that are not life-threatening and has since been discharged.
A 53-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody at this time.
It is believed that the victim and the arrested man are known to one another.
Detective Inspector George Graham, of Dorset County CID, said: “An investigation is underway and a police cordon was put in place at the scene as enquiries were carried out.
“I am appealing to any members of the public who were in the area and saw what happened to please get in touch.
“There will remain an increased policing presence in the vicinity and officers can be approached by members of the public with information or concerns.”
