It's believed a major fire that ripped through an industrial unit in East Dorset was started accidentally.

Crews from across the county were called to Woolsbridge Industrial Estate at Three Legged Cross last night, to tackle a fire at a commercial premises.

Crews attended from Ringwood, Verwood, Ferndown, Redhill Park, Wimborne and Blandford, together with the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne, a water carrier from Ringwood, and support units from Hamworthy, Dorchester and Ferndown.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

"Firefighters worked extremely hard in very cold conditions to contain the fire to the one unit, which suffered severe damage.

"The electricity board was unable to isolate supply to the one affected unit so had to cut power to around a dozen properties.

"They were working on scene overnight so hopefully supplies have been restored now."

"We’re comfortable that the fire started accidentally but an exact cause hasn’t been determined."

Firefighters remained at the scene until shortly before 1am and a crew from Ferndown has been back out this morning to carry out a reinspection.
