'Innovation Quarter' planned around Bournemouth University
The plans would include a new state-of-the-art private hospital
Plans for a 25 acre 'Innovation Quarter' surrounding Bournemouth University have been tabled.
Central to the development would be an estimated ÂŁ100 million state-of-the-art private hospital.
Developers say this project is part of BCP Council's growth strategy and bring an estimated ÂŁ97 million per year into the local economy.
Nick Ashley-Cooper from the Talbot Village Trust says the project will attract workers from high-tech sectors:
"We have been working with the universities and BCP Council for some time about this land, just south of the universities, and how we can harness the impact that universities provide, with bringing in students and creating expertise, and how we can use that as an opportunity to create growth in our area."
The scheme also aims to provide jobs for young people and preserve the biodiversity in Talbot Heath.
Around 1,370 jobs are expected to be created through the development.
Nick Ashley-Cooper says the proposal will connect the community:
"There's some other really important parts to this project about connecting people together, in an area that's quite disparate. There's a central boulevard through the innovation quarter that is pulling together the local community with these new professionals that we're going to be attracting and the student campus. A lot of thought has been into how we can make it a connected, social environment."
A consultation on the plans was held between July and September this year.
The formal planning application is now in with BCP Council.
