Over 20 tonnes of hay destroyed in North Dorset fire

Firefighters tackled a blaze at Stalbridge last night (22nd July)

24 tonnes of hay has been destroyed in a fire at a farm in north Dorset.

13 crews of firefighters were called out to tackle the blaze in Stalbridge, which began just after 8.50pm last night (Monday 22nd July).

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue tell us engines from Sturminster Newton, Sherborne, Blandford, Yeovil, Dorchester, Gillingham, Wimborne, Shaftesbury, Tisbury, Bridport and Warminster were sent to the scene throughout the night.

Farm machinery was also destroyed but firefighters were able to save a barn next to the blaze.

Crews remained there until around 10.20am today (Tuesday 23rd July).

It's not yet known how the fire started.
