There's free parking in Weymouth car parks today (Saturday 2nd December) to mark Small Business Saturday.

It applies at all sites that are run by Dorset Council - Weymouth Pavilion, Pavilion Forecourt, Governors Lane, Cosens Quay, Harbourside, Melcombe Regis, Park Street and Swannery.

Chair of Services at Weymouth Town Council, Cllr Ryan Hope said:

“Our thanks go to Dorset Council for supporting this initiative again this year. It’s great to have free parking on these dates which will bring people into the town as well as encourage those to shop local and boost the economy. And do join the Mayor of Weymouth for Carols by the Coast on Saturday 2nd December and get into the festive spirit in the run up to Christmas.”

Car parks are expected to busier than usual, and shoppers are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible.

A further free parking day's planned for Boxing Day (Tuesday 26th December) in Weymouth this year too.

What is Small Business Saturday?

It's a national campaign, now in its 11th year, which celebrates small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local' and to support businesses in their communities.

It takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but organisers say it has an impact that lasts all year round.
