Dorset police officer joining thousands on duty for Coronation
PC Jim Perks will be involved in London, representing the county force
A Dorset police officers has been chosen to represent the county's force during this weekend's Coronation events.
PC Jim Perks will join a contingent of officers that will line the ceremonial route as King Charles and Queen Camilla pass by on their way to and from Westminster Abbey tomorrow (Saturday 6th May).
Jim is a frontline response officer who's served with Dorset Police since 2007.
Before that he was in the RAF for 22 years.
PC Perks said:
“I’ve spent most of my career serving Queen and Country, so it’s an immense honour to be part of His Majesty’s Coronation. It’s not often you get a chance to be part of such a historic occasion and I expect my family will be watching at home, hoping to catch a glimpse of me in the crowd.”
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Lyne said:
“Jim is a shining example of professional service. Over his years with Dorset Police he’s been a leader and mentor to many student officers. He’s an excellent officer and we’re proud to have him representing us. I expect he’ll come away with many memories to treasure.”
Dorset Police is also sending specialists from the Firearms, Roads and Dog Handling teams to support the huge policing effort in London, through the Mutual Aid partnership.
ACC Lyne continued:
“This will be a significant occasion for UK policing and we’re happy to help our colleagues in London deal with what is expected to be the biggest public event of the year. Our officers will play their part in ensuring the safety of everyone there. I hope everyone who attends, including our officers, comes back with many happy memories of a momentous occasion.”
