Dorset will fall silent to honour the fallen today (Sunday 13th November), with events to mark Remembrance Sunday.

In Weymouth, the traditional parade is being held along the seafront, with wreath laying at the Cenotaph.

A Remembrance Service will begin there at 10.58am, hosted by the Mayor, Cllr Ann Weaving, and conducted by the Mayor's Chaplain, Reverend Brian Ellis.

A cannon will be fired from the beach by the Nothe Fort Volunteer Artillery to signal the start and end of the two-minute silence from 11.00am, with the Weymouth Salvation Army bugler performing the Last Post and Reveille.

The parade will then make its way to the American Memorial, where a short wreath laying service takes place.

Cllr Ann Weaving said:

“As Mayor of Weymouth it is real privilege to host the town’s Remembrance Sunday events. It provides a moment of reflection where people can come together to remember the incredibly brave people who have fought in conflicts all over the world. These individual sacrifices must never be forgotten. This is especially poignant given Weymouth’s history in working closely with its Armed Forces community.”

The Esplanade, between William Street and King Street, will be closed between 10.00am and 12.00pm for the events.

It'll also be closed from 12.00pm to 12.30pm between King Street and the King Statue.

Melcombe Regis, Park Street, and Swannery car parks will be offering free parking for people attending, thanks to Dorset Council.

In Bridport, the Town Council's organised the Remembrance Parade and Service.

Accompanied by the Wessex Military Band, the parade will move off from East Street at approximately 10.40am following inspection by the Town Mayor, Cllr Ian Bark.

The Mayor will lead the Parade and will then lay a wreath as part of the ceremony and observance of the traditional two minute silence at the War Memorial.

This will be followed by the Mayor’s address and the Service of Remembrance in St Mary’s Church.

In Wimborne, the town's Minster will host a Remembrance Sunday service from 3.00pm.

The service will be conducted by The Rector of Wimborne Minster, Reverend Canon Andrew J W Rowland, Reverend Nick Wells and assisted by other clergy of the Town.

Before the service commences there will be a parade, starting from the Royal British Legion on West Borough and ending at The Minster.

After the Remembrance Service, wreaths will be laid on the Minster Green.
