Critical incident at Dorset County Hospital stood down
They still remain 'under extreme pressure' though
A critical incident at Dorset County Hospital has been stood down, less than a day after it was brought it.
But NHS bosses there say the Dorchester hospital remains 'under extreme pressure' as they 'focus on making sure patients are safe' and 'critical services' are kept running.
There are concerns that another Bank Holiday weekend could add to the existing pressures, while teams are already 'incredibly busy'.
We're advised of a few things we can do to help the situation:
- Only call 999 in the event of a serious or life-threatening emergency
- Visit or call the NHS 111 service, if you need urgent medical help and aren't sure what to do
- Be ready to collect your family or loved ones from hospital as soon as they are medically well-enough to leave
- Don't go to the Emergency Department with minor injuries and ailments, as you will be signposted elsewhere - Minor Injuries Units are available to help with urgent care needs. Visit for more information on where they are and when to use them
- Use your local pharmacy if you are able to - they can help with a range of minor health issues including colds, skin problems and earaches
In a statement on social media, DCH have said:
"Thank you to our staff, partners and volunteers for all their hard work to support us, and patients and their loved ones for bearing with us through this very difficult period.
"We would like to reassure you that, despite the challenges we face, our staff remain committed to providing the best possible care."
