Campaigners march against new homes north of Dorchester
They're also warning developers not to anger the Dorset Ooser
A campaign group in Dorchester are warning developers not to anger the Dorset Ooser.
STAND (Save the Area North of Dorchester) are protesting today against the development of 4000 new home north of the county.
They will be marching through the town with a replica of the Dorset Ooser who is known as the traditional guardian of the countryside.
Protestors are hoping to highlight their concerns that including flooding, pollution and a the threat to the local countryside.
A spokesperson from STAND said:
“The countryside is under threat. Expensive new houses that don’t meet local need could be built on green fields north of Dorchester. The Ooser won’t like flood water oozing into people’s homes; contaminants oozing into drinking water and pollution oozing into the River Frome.”
Following heavy rainfall last year the North Dorset consortium who have backed the plans for the North Dorchester Garden Community assured future buyers that they were not building homes on land at risk of flooding.
Supporters are gathering at the Town Pump from 10.30 am on Saturday 27th April 2024.
