A busy Bournemouth route will be closed for five days from today (Monday 8th July until Friday 12th) to allow for resurfacing and line painting.

Glenferness Avenue will be closed at its junction with Leven Avenue.

The work is associated with the new toucan crossing and stepped cycle lanes that have recently been installed by BCP Council on Glenferness Avenue between Leven Avenue and Rothesay Road.

A signposted diversion will be in place while the work is carried out.

Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained throughout the works, and access to local properties will be unaffected.

Julian McLaughlin, Director for Infrastructure at BCP Council, said:

“We are expecting some journeys to be delayed while this road closure is in place, so please allow extra time for travelling through this area.

I’d like to thank anyone affected in advance for their patience and understanding while this essential work is carried out.”

The work is being funded by the Government's Transforming Cities Fund and is part of ongoing walking, wheeling and cycling improvements in the Glenferness Avenue area around Leven Avenue, Benellen Avenue, Branksome Wood Road, Queen’s Road and Prince of Wales Road into the Upper Gardens.

Once the project's completed, Bournemouth will benefit from a safe and sustainable travel route running all the way between the town centre, Talbot Woods, Winton and Wallisdown.
