A new NHS audiology centre's been opened in Weymouth, to improve services for West Dorset patients.

Dorset HealthCare's set up a facility at the Park Centre, next to Weymouth Community Hospital.

It's in addition to other clinics at Bridport, Blandford, Sherborne and Dorchester, but the new site includes more state-of-the-art equipment for testing, diagnoses and treatment.

The team can help patients with issues like dizziness and vertigo, as well as providing paediatric testing using video screens, giving more options when testing the hearing of young children.

It's hoped the new hub, with a larger team will reduce waiting lists, thanks to increased capacity, as well as being a training base for apprentices and students.

Helen Williams, the Trust’s Dorset audiology/community ear nose and throat service manager, said:

“We are delighted to have opened up this new audiology facility next to Weymouth Hospital. The new capacity and staff resources will help us provide quicker appointments so we can diagnose and treat conditions faster.”

The audiology suite has opened as part of the NHS England’s Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) programme.

This includes other new services and facilities such as a CT scanner, x-ray and ultrasound managed by Dorset County Hospital at the Weymouth Hospital site.
