A pop-up campsite is being planned for a farm site at Chickerell.

Dorset Council is being requested to decide on a 28-day consent for 50 pitches at Seaview Farm, Fleet Lane.

Plans submitted to the council show the site location with the positioning of temporary toilets, showers and recycling facilities, but with little other information.

Both Natural England and Dorset Council’s environment team are being consulted on the application over the possible consequences of setting up the site.

They are being asked for their comments on any perceived effect of the campsite might have on the local environment under Habitats Regulations. A recent application for a camp site near Portland Bill ran into difficulties because of Habitat rules, although complied with other aspects of a temporary site. There it was said that the site would impact on the Chesil Bank and Fleet although almost five miles away.

A similar stance was taken earlier in the year over proposals for a temporary Wareham camp site and the effects it might have on the Poole Harbour river catchment zone.

The environmental views on the Chickerell site are expected to be returned by September 9th.

Details about the proposal can be seen on the Dorset Council website – reference 2023/04797, although there is no facility for public comment on the application.
