25 firefighters were called to Portland yesterday afternoon after a fire broke out at the Atlantic Academy school.

Crews from Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and Bridport were called to Southwell Business Park at around 4.30pm.

They put out a blaze at Maritime House.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

"At the height of this incident around 25 firefighters were on the scene.

"Crews used four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters then ventilated the premises."

In a message on social media the school says everyone is safe and well but will remain closed today.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will return to the scene today and will be carrying out a full investigation to establish how the fire started.
